SEO content strategy.
Choose the work before the word count.

A content strategy defines which questions your website should answer, what evidence it can contribute and how the work will be maintained. A calendar helps organize delivery after those decisions are clear.

01

1. Define the reader’s decision

Describe who the page helps and what they should understand or do after reading. “Publish more blog posts” is an activity; helping a buyer compare audit scopes is a specific reader task. The right format follows from that task and the material your business can provide.

Write down the limits too. A general SEO business should not present itself as a proven specialist in an industry without evidence. Keep proposed topics, confirmed capabilities and verified client outcomes separate in the brief.

  • Name the audience, task and useful next action
  • List subject-matter reviewers and evidence available to them
02

2. Audit the pages you already have

Inventory important URLs with their purpose, audience, owner and relevant next step. Read the pages as well as their metadata. Where authorized measurement exists, use it to investigate which pages attract suitable visits or inquiries; do not assume an unmeasured page has no value.

Look for overlap and gaps. Two pages answering the same question may need a clearer division or a merge. An incomplete service page may need a better explanation rather than a new article repeating its introduction. Keep technical access and indexing problems distinct from editorial problems.

  • Choose keep, improve, merge or create for each candidate
  • Explain the reason and the evidence required before a merge
03

3. Make a brief that an editor can act on

A workable brief records the reader task, intended URL, page type, primary question, supporting questions and source material. Add the business facts that need review, the scope of the answer and the related service or guide that should be linked. A keyword list alone does not tell a writer what must be learned.

Use an illustrative brief to test the process: for “what does an SEO audit include?”, define the reader as someone comparing scopes, ask for an approved deliverables list, and distinguish diagnosis from implementation. Do not add a fixed turnaround, guaranteed result or client example unless it is verified.

  • Assign writing, subject-matter review and publication owners
  • Define factual review, revisions and a clear acceptance checklist
  • Plan useful diagrams or examples only where they explain the task
04

4. Prioritize and maintain the work

Compare the value of answering the question, confidence in the available evidence, overlap with existing content and the effort to produce a useful page. Keep dependencies visible: a page that needs an approved scope or a technical fix may not be ready for writing. An arbitrary monthly page count is not a reason to publish a weak answer.

After release, check the live content and links, then review the relevant outcomes where measurement is available. Set a maintenance trigger such as a service change, outdated reference or changed reader question. Record what was updated and why rather than repeatedly changing a good title without evidence.

  • Publication check: accurate copy, clear headings, working links and a relevant CTA
  • Maintenance check: owner, review trigger and unresolved questions
