Search Console vs Google Analytics.
Use each report for the question it can answer.

Search Console and Google Analytics describe different parts of discovery and website use. Their figures are not interchangeable. Start with the decision you need to make, then check the property, filters and measurement setup behind the answer.

01

Separate search visibility from site behavior

Use Search Console to investigate how a site appears and receives clicks in Google Search. Use Analytics to examine measured interactions on your website or app. Neither automatically supplies the full sales story, and a missing event does not establish that no visitor completed the action.

  • Write the business question first
  • Identify which system observes it
  • Note any required account access
02

Check the properties before comparing numbers

Confirm that the reports cover the intended hostname, protocol and period. Note time zones, country or device filters and the Analytics data stream. A domain-level Search Console view and a narrowly filtered Analytics report can legitimately describe different populations.

  • Save the exact property and stream
  • Align comparison dates and filters
  • Record when measurement began
03

Do not equate a click with a session

A search click and an Analytics session are different measurements. Consent choices, tracking availability, navigation and processing can affect what appears in a report. Investigate the measurement setup and definitions before calling a discrepancy lost traffic or a tracking failure.

  • Check consent and tag deployment
  • Inspect redirects and cross-domain paths
  • Keep unexplained differences visible
04

Use a practical diagnostic sequence

Suppose a service page gets search clicks but few recorded inquiries. First verify the relevant destination and page content, then check that the form works and its saved submissions correspond to the event definition. This is a diagnostic example, not evidence that the page has a conversion problem.

  • Verify the actual landing URL
  • Separate CTA clicks from stored inquiries
  • Review qualified lead outcomes with the owner
05

Agree a shared reporting sheet

Create rows for the question, metric definition, source, period, filters, owner and limitation. This helps a marketing team discuss discovery and a sales team discuss qualification without silently blending counts from different systems.

  • Keep search, behavior and CRM stages distinct
  • Link reports rather than copying unexplained totals
  • Document changes to event definitions
06

Close the measurement gap honestly

If access, consent coverage or CRM linkage is missing, state what you can verify today and what remains unknown. Define the next validation step and its owner. A clear limitation is more useful than manufacturing a combined dashboard total that nobody can reproduce.

  • Preserve the baseline
  • Confirm event delivery before reporting success
  • Review the worksheet after a measurement change
